A New Goggle-like Design with Cutting-Edge Technology
At the MWC 2023 tech expo in Barcelona, Xiaomi unveiled its latest AR smartglasses concept, the Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition. The announcement comes about a year and a half after the release of the company’s previous AR glasses – the Xiaomi Smart Glasses.
The Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition sports a lightweight goggle-like design, weighing in at just 126g. It is built using a magnesium-titanium alloy and carbon fiber material. The device is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 chipset found in the Meta Quest Pro.
Impressive Display and Wireless Connectivity H3: High-Quality Visuals and User Interaction
As the name implies, the Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition offers wireless connectivity. Xiaomi highlights its “retina-level” Micro-OLED displays for each eye, capable of providing visuals at a peak brightness of 1,200 nits.
The smartglasses also feature three forward-facing cameras that enable overlays on the user’s immediate vision. Hand tracking is included, allowing users to navigate virtual world apps seamlessly and interact with their surroundings effortlessly.
Xiaomi’s AR Smartglasses Remain a Concept for Now
Currently, the Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition is only a concept, with no official information on pricing or availability. Despite this, Xiaomi seems to be a step ahead of other major companies aiming to launch AR devices that could revolutionize the market.
Progress in the AR space has been slow in recent years, but the potential release of Apple Reality Pro, Samsung Galaxy Glasses, and Google smartglasses in the near future might provide the much-needed boost for the industry.
