Walmart EV Charging Network Expansion Announced

Walmart Set to Expand EV Charging Network Significantly

Thousands of retail locations to gain fast-charging stations by 2030

Significant expansion of electric vehicle (EV) charging network at Walmart announced, with thousands of Walmart and Sam’s Club locations receiving new charging stations by 2030. The exact number of the nearly 5,300 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations that will join the network has not been specified.

    Boosting the Existing Charging Network

Currently, Walmart operates over 1,300 EV fast-charging stations across more than 280 retail stores and affiliated facilities. The planned expansion aims to make EV ownership more accessible, regardless of whether people live in rural, suburban, or urban areas.

    Convenient Charging for More Americans

Vishal Kapadia, Senior Vice President of Energy Transformation at Walmart, noted that their stores and clubs are located within 10 miles of around 90% of Americans, putting them in a unique position to offer a convenient charging solution.

    Partnerships and Pricing

While Walmart is still seeking energy suppliers, the company has previously worked with providers such as EVgo and VW’s Electrify America. Walmart has committed to providing four chargers at each participating store, maintaining low energy prices, though no specific cost estimates have been disclosed.

Walmart’s Commitment to Reducing its Environmental Impact

In addition to the EV charger initiative, Walmart aims to achieve zero emissions for all supply chain vehicles by 2040 and has already transitioned to some electric vehicles for deliveries as part of its efforts to improve its environmental footprint.
