System Shock Remake Set for May 30th Release on PC, Consoles to Follow

System Shock Remake Launch Delayed to May 30th

The highly anticipated System Shock remake now has a definitive release date, albeit one that represents yet another delay. Publisher Prime Matter had initially planned to launch the game by the end of March but admitted that the timeline proved to be slightly out of reach. As a result, the remake is now slated for release on May 30th across Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, with a price tag of $40.

    Early Purchasers Receive Bonus

To sweeten the deal, early buyers will receive a complimentary copy of System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition when Nightdive Studios’ port of the game is released.

Console Players Must Wait a Bit Longer

Unfortunately, console players will have to wait a bit longer for the System Shock remake to become available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Prime Matter has not yet revealed a specific release date but promises to provide more information as it becomes available.

A Long-Awaited Remake in the Works

Nightdive Studios first announced the remake of the 1994 first-person RPG in 2015, with fans catching a glimpse of the game in 2016. The studio initially estimated a summer 2021 release, which ultimately did not materialize.

Enhancements to the Classic Game Experience

According to Prime Matter, the updated version of System Shock will retain the original gameplay that made the title so influential while providing enhancements to the visuals, audio, controls, and interface. Additional updates include a revamped hacking feature, new enemies, and an improved combat system with a dismemberment feature. Players eager for a taste of the remake can try out the PC demo that is currently available.

Reviving a Classic for a New Generation

The System Shock remake aims to bring the beloved first-person RPG back to life for both longtime fans and a new generation of gamers. With improved visuals, audio, and gameplay, along with a release date now set for May 30th on PC platforms, the wait is almost over. Console players will need to be patient for a little while longer, but the eventual arrival of the game on PlayStation and Xbox consoles will ensure that even more players can experience this classic title in a fresh, modern format.
