Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Chip Details Surface in Intriguing Leak
Qualcomm’s Forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3: A Game-Changer in the Chip Market?
Just months after the announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship chip in November 2022, Qualcomm seems to be gearing up for a quicker-than-expected successor. Exciting leaks surrounding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 have emerged, indicating that it might be a worthy rival to Apple’s A-series iPhone chips and Google’s Tensor silicon.
A New Configuration and 32-bit Support Discontinued
The leaked information about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, shared by Twitter user and leaker Kuba Wojciechowski, reveals that the chip will have a new 2+3+2+1 next-generation ARM configuration. Furthermore, the upcoming chip will drop support for 32-bit entirely.

Codenames and Core Configuration
According to the leak, the chip, known as SM8650, is currently being developed under one of two codenames within Qualcomm: Lanai or Pineapple. The launch is anticipated to occur in late 2023, but some sources suggest that Qualcomm might introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s successor before a full year has passed.
The leaked configuration for the chip, which includes new Titanium cores believed to be part of the ARM A7XX family, is as follows:
- 2x Arm codename Hayes (A5xx) “Silver” cores
- 3x Arm codename Hunter (A7xx) “Gold” cores
- 2x Arm codename Hunter (A7xx) “Titanium” cores
- 1x Arm codename Hunter ELP (Xn) “Gold+” core
Distinguishing Titanium Cores from Gold Cluster
Wojciechowski noted that the details regarding the differences between the new Titanium cores and the existing Gold cluster are unclear. However, they mentioned that the software makes a “pretty clear” distinction between the two. This could imply that the Titanium cores may be equipped with more cache or have higher clock speeds than their Gold counterparts.
32-bit Support Phased Out
The leaker also pointed out that the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip will no longer support 32-bit, although this change is unlikely to be noticeable. Android has been gradually phasing out 32-bit support for quite some time.
The Impact on Future Smartphone Performance
The implications of these leaks for the performance of smartphones equipped with the new chip remain to be seen. However, given the strong performance of the predecessor chip, expectations are already high for the potential of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to deliver exceptional results.
