The newly announced Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC from Qualcomm promises significant performance enhancements for upper mid-range devices launching soon.
A New Era for Mid-Range Devices
Qualcomm has unveiled its latest 7-series SoC, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, set to appear in smartphones priced between $400 and $600 in the near future. This new chip succeeds last year’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, delivering substantial performance improvements.
Unprecedented Performance Gains
With the CPU now operating at up to 2.8 GHz, Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 can achieve up to a 50% performance increase. Additionally, the chip boasts double the graphics performance, twice the AI processing capability, and a 13% increase in efficiency compared to its predecessor.
Unfazed by competition, Qualcomm asserts that its new chip outperforms the closest rival by 15% in CPU tasks and a remarkable 25% in GPU tasks. The GPU performance improvement jumps to 65% for sustained workloads, such as long gaming sessions.
Advanced Features for Enhanced Gaming and Audio
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is the first 7-series chip to incorporate automatic variable-rate shading (VRS), an innovative method for rendering games more efficiently, resulting in reduced power consumption and heat generation. The chip also supports Adreno frame motion to boost framerates and volumetric rendering to improve particle effects like fog and smoke in games.
The 7+ Gen 2 introduces aptX Lossless audio to the 7-series, offering extremely high-fidelity audio for compatible wireless headphones, along with enhanced Bluetooth connection stability and low-latency wireless in-game chat.
Impressive Imaging and Connectivity Capabilities
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 supports cameras with up to 200MP resolution and an 18-bit triple ISP capable of capturing 4,000 times more camera data. The chip can also manage staggered HDR video capture with triple exposure from two cameras simultaneously, resulting in a significantly improved dynamic range.
As for connectivity, the 7+ Gen 2 is compatible with Wi-Fi 6E at up to 3.6 Gbps and 5G at up to 4.4 Gbps. It also supports a broader range of networks, frequencies, and bandwidths globally.
Upcoming Device Launches
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2’s promising capabilities should soon be available for testing, as Qualcomm reveals that brands like Redmi and Realme will launch devices featuring the new chip in the near future.
