Google Teases the Pixel 9 Pro Fold Ahead of August Launch
Google has officially confirmed the existence of its upcoming foldable smartphone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, in a recent teaser video. Scheduled for an August 13 release, this new model promises to be a significant addition to Google’s Pixel lineup, marketed as “a foldable phone built for the Gemini era.” The promotional video highlights the device’s AI capabilities, prominently featuring Google’s latest AI chatbot integration.
The phone shares some design elements with the non-foldable Pixel 9 Pro, including a noticeable camera bump. This camera bump, positioned near one side of the phone, houses vertically arranged lenses and is designed to not span the entire width of the folded device. This design choice allows for a more streamlined look when the phone is folded.
Although Google has not yet fully unveiled the device, details about this phone and other models in the series have already surfaced thanks to a leak from Android Authority. Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) inadvertently provided early glimpses of the Pixel 9 series, including the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold. These leaked images reveal several key features of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, such as an internally positioned selfie camera for a wider field of view and a reduced crease on the foldable display, which measures approximately 10 inches (250mm).
The NCC leak also indicated that the new Pixel devices would require larger chargers due to their increased charging rates compared to previous models. However, among the new releases, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold appears to have the slowest charging rate based on the NCC’s tests. These specifications and more will be confirmed at Google’s upcoming Made by Google event on August 13, where the company will formally introduce its new smartphones.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is expected to bring a host of advanced features to the foldable smartphone market, building on Google’s reputation for integrating cutting-edge technology and AI into its devices. With its foldable design, enhanced camera setup, and AI capabilities, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold aims to compete with other high-end foldable phones currently available.
