Free Access to Health Trends for Compatible Devices
Announced during Google Health’s The Check Up event, this change (Unlocking of Fitbit Health Metrics Dashboard) applies immediately to all compatible Fitbit devices, including the Google Pixel Watch. Users no longer need to pay the monthly subscription fee of $9.99/£7.99 to access 30-day and 90-day trends for heart rate variability, SpO2 readings, skin temperature, breathing rate, and resting heart rate. Previously, only 7-day graphs were available to non-subscribers.
Some Features Remain Behind Premium Paywall
However, not all Premium features will be made free. The Daily Readiness Score, similar to the aggregate scores provided by Garmin, Oura, and Whoop, will continue to require a Fitbit Premium subscription. Other features, such as sleep restlessness, will also remain subscription-exclusive.
A Welcome Change for Fitbit Owners
This move is beneficial for Fitbit users who have seen recent community feature cutbacks and the removal of third-party apps from existing watches. It’s a necessary step, considering competitors like Apple and Garmin do not charge users for viewing graphs and trends. Fitbit even offers some data tracking features not provided by these brands, making it an increasingly attractive option.
The Future of Fitbit Premium
With the newly unlocked features, the value of Fitbit Premium is in question. The subscription was not particularly compelling before, and now users might find it even less enticing unless they’re particularly interested in the Daily Readiness Score. Fitbit users can expect the rollout of these free features to happen over the coming weeks.
