Apple Health VP Suggests Blood Glucose Monitoring for Apple Watch on the Horizon
Apple Health Exec Hints at Advanced Health Tracking
Non-Invasive Blood Glucose Monitoring in Development: Apple’s Vice President of Health has shared insights about the future of the Apple Watch, even hinting at the company’s work on advanced health tracking features like non-invasive blood glucose monitoring. While the Apple executive remained tight-lipped about specific future features, they acknowledged that areas like blood glucose sensors are “really important” but require substantial scientific backing.
This statement follows a recent Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, which claims that Apple has reached a significant milestone in developing a non-invasive blood glucose monitor. Reportedly, Apple has been researching this technology for over a decade, and recent progress has resulted in a viable proof-of-concept.
Blood Glucose Sensor for Apple Watch: A Long Road Ahead
According to Gurman, a blood glucose sensor that functions by shining light through the skin to measure glucose levels in the blood is still several years away from being integrated into an Apple Watch. The Apple Health VP’s comment seems to support this timeline.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has previously stated that the company’s most significant contribution will be in the health sector. The Apple Health executive emphasized that the company is “laser-focused” on building upon its existing work in this area.
Advanced Health Sensors to Become More Accessible
Collaboration with Medical Community and Future Apple Watch SE Sensors : The Apple Health VP also highlighted the company’s investment in research and collaboration with the medical community, which will help harness new technology signals to better understand individual health. Interestingly, when asked about incorporating advanced health sensors in more accessible Apple Watch models, the executive hinted that devices like the Apple Watch SE could include more sensors in the future.
“We are still in the early days, and so the hope is that over time we learn more and make more features available, [and we will] also make the technology more available for more people,” they said.
Addressing Privacy Concerns and Patent Disputes
Apple Health VP Discusses Industry Challenges: In a comprehensive interview with Indian publication Businessline, the Apple Health executive also discussed privacy concerns related to consumer-focused healthcare and Apple’s ongoing patent dispute with startup AliveCor. As Apple continues to develop advanced health tracking features, it will be interesting to see how these technologies shape the future of the Apple Watch and the broader healthcare industry.
