Apple Unveils macOS 15 Sequoia at WWDC 2024

Apple has officially introduced macOS 15 Sequoia at the WWDC 2024 event, providing a first glimpse at the upcoming operating system for MacBooks and Macs. Building on the success of macOS Sonoma, which debuted at last year’s event, macOS 15 Sequoia brings a host of new features, many leveraging Apple’s advanced AI tools announced at the same event.

Key Features of macOS 15 Sequoia

macOS 15 Sequoia comes packed with innovative features designed to enhance user experience and productivity. Here’s what you can expect:

    • iPhone Screen Mirroring: Users can now mirror their iPhone screens directly onto their Mac, creating a seamless integration between devices.
    • iPhone Notifications on Mac: Stay updated with iPhone notifications appearing on your Mac, ensuring you never miss important alerts.
    • Improved Window Management: Dragging a window to the side of your screen will provide new layout options, allowing for better window organization.
    • Customizable FaceTime Backgrounds: Replace backgrounds during FaceTime calls to enhance your video chatting experience.
    • New Password App: The new Password app replaces Keychain, offering an easier way to manage and sync passwords across iPhones, Vision Pro, iPads, and even Windows PCs.
    • Safari Enhancements: Safari receives significant updates, including a new Reader mode that removes distractions and a Viewer feature that detects and highlights videos on websites.
    • Game Porting Toolkit 2: This toolkit promises to bring more advanced games to Macs and simplify porting Mac games to iPhone and iPad. Control with ray tracing support is coming to Mac, and Ubisoft is porting Assassin’s Creed Shadows to both Mac and iPad.

Release Schedule for macOS 15 Sequoia

Apple announced that macOS 15 Sequoia will initially be available as a developer preview starting today, June 10. This version is intended for app developers to test and refine their applications on the new OS. Access to this developer preview requires enrollment in Apple’s developer program, which incurs a fee.

macOS 15 Sequoia represents a significant step forward in integrating AI and improving user experience across Mac devices. With new features that enhance productivity, security, and entertainment, this update promises to make the macOS ecosystem even more powerful and user-friendly.

    This is a developing story.
